  • noun A cigar-shaped, steam-propelled vessel, the screw of which consists of a cylinder about half the length of the hull which is situated at the center of the hull, and passes around it. The cylinder has fins which run diagonally around it, and their rotation contributes motion to the hull, while the keel is connected at both ends to the hull and hangs below the revolving cylinder.
