  • A small family of clavicorn beetles, typified by the genus Scaphidium, composed of small oval or rounded oval, convex, very slimy necrophagous beetles, or scavenger-beetles, which live in fungi and feed on decaying animal and vegetable substances. The larvæ are said to have long antennæ. Also Scaphidiadæ, Scaphidida, Scaphidii, Scaphidites.
