- In ornithology, having each nasal bone deeply cleft or forked: opposed to holorhinal. The term denotes the condition of the nasal bone on each side(right and left), and not the separateness of the two nasal bones, which it has been misunderstood to mean. By a further mistake, it has been made to mean a slit-like character of the external nostrils, with which it has nothing to do.
