  1. A South African tree, Ptæroxylon utile, or its timber. The latter is a handsome wood taking a fine polish; it is strong and very durable, and but slightly affected by moisture. It is made into furniture, agricultural implements, etc., and is used for railway-ties. piles, and similar purposes. The dust produced in working it causes sneezing (whence the name).
