The soggie is really just another kind of bag which is widely used in East Africa, and has been found to be one of the best ways of loading a donkey.
A pannier is a more rigid container than a bag or soggie, so that it incurs less risk of poor packing and shape to the load.
The soggie is usually woven out of strong and long lasting materials like rushes, but can equally well be made from grasses or palm leaves, and any competent basket weaver is able to make one.
