1. n. A genus of fruit-pigeons or Treroninæ, having the tail cuneate. Several species inhabit parts of Asia, Japan, and the East Indies, as S. sphenurus of the Himalayan region, S. sicboldi of Japan, S. korthalsi of Sumatra, S. apicauda of Nepāl, S. oxyurus of Java and Borneo, S. formosæ of Formosa. The genus is also called Sphenurus, Sphenænas, and Sphenotreron.
