1. n. The washing-or towel-gourd, Luffa cylindrica (L. Ægyptiaca), also L. acutangula. The netted fiber from the interior of the fruit is used for washing and other purposes, hence called vegetable sponge or dish-rag. See Luffa and strainer-vine.
