  • noun A genus of hyphomycetous fungi giving name to the family Stilbaceæ, and having the hyphæ united into a stipe which bears a small head from which the conidiophores arise bearing small hyaline unicellular conidia. About 100 species have been described, most of which are regarded as saprophytic, though S. flavidum is considered to be the cause of the American coffee-disease.
