  • noun A genus of hyphomycetous fungi, of the family Stilbaceæ, having the fertile hyphæ arranged in an erect, cylindrical, dark-colored stipe bearing mostly hyaline, catenulate, unicellular conidia. S. Stemonites is a common species on decaying herbaceous plants and is said to cause a rot of potatoes.
