I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail last summer, 2168 miles from Georgia to Maine and I suffered and heard tell of many a case of "steamy butt" only we thru-hikers called it "Swass" short for sweaty ass. Left unattended, swass can concentrate into "Swasstic Acid" a powerful scuz that actually eats through fabric, -- no joke, -- then again, all the walking and sitting in dirt is pretty tough on the single pair of shorts most long distance hikers use for a five month stint in the woods.
