1. In Cope's classification (1871), a superorder of Reptilia, containing the orders Rhynchocephalia, Testudinata, and Sauropterygia.
2. It is within the subclass Synapsida; in it are included forms with a single temporal bar, as distinguished from the Cotylosauria, in which-the temporal region is imperforate.
