  • A subfamily of Hystricidæ, typified by the genus Synetheres, having the tail prehensile and all four feet four-toed: so named (after Synetherina of Gervais, 1852) by J. A. Allen in 1877. Also called Sphingurinæ and Cercolabinæ.
