Linework for this ecoregion follows United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), from which the following formation were lumped within western Ecuador: tropical evergreen seasonal lowland forest, tropical (or subtropical) evergreen seasonal lowland forest, drought deciduous lowland and submontane woodland, and tall grassland almost without tree synusia.
