  • noun The trifurcated hake, a gadoid fish, Raniceps raninus (or trifurcatus), of the North Atlantic waters of Europe, of a dark color and about a foot long. Also called tadpole-fish, lesser forkbeard, and tommy-noddy. See cut under Raniceps.
