I definitely feel that fonts that are composed entirely of tangencies and lines (whether serif or san serif) look mechanical and constructed, living in the level of the letter forms rather than in the level of the language and the emotions being communicated by the choice of typography, whereas fonts carefully formed with curvature continuity with care by the typographer don't exhibit that same constructed feel.
