  • n. A cosmopolitan beetle, Attagenus piceus, of the family Dermestid√¶. Its larva is a general feeder, destroying woolen goods, bird-skins, and insect collections, and also feeding on flour, meal, and seeds. Also called the black carpet-beetle.
