  • noun A mixture of finely divided metallic aluminium with the oxids of titanium and iron, one of the varieties of so-called ‘thermit,’ which on ignition develops an exceedingly high temperature and produces a fused alloy of iron and titanium. It has been used in steel-making with the expectation of removing any iron nitride present. See aluminothermics.
