Definitions
Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
- n. A bird which feeds on the juices of the palms in India. The name is not well determined, and probably applies to several different species. If given to a weaver-bird, it would probably be to a baya-bird, either Ploceus baya or P. bengalensis. As identified with Artamus fuscus, a toddy-bird is a sort of swallow-shrike, of a different family (Artamidæ).
