  1. n. A kind of lever of iron, about 4 feet long and 1 inch in breadth and thickness, tapering away at the lower end and having a small degree of curvature there, somewhat like the prong of a dung-fork, used for turning up very hard soils. It is fitted with a rest, about 18 inches from the lower end, on which the workman presses with his foot.
