- A family of acanthopterygian fishes, whose typical genus is Trigla: used with widely varying limits. It has included all the mail-cheeked fishes, being gradually restricted, and is now by some authors limited to the gurnards and closely related forms, having a parallelepiped head, entirely mailed cheeks, and three free pectoral rays.
