1. n. A colorless compound, (C₆H₅)₃CH, prepared by the action of aluminium chlorid and benzene on chloroform. It is trimorphous, forms rhombic crystals, melts at 92°C, boils at 359° C, and is the parent substance of many valuable dyes.
