  • In metallurgy, insufficiently treated with the pole: said of copper which is reduced from a condition of some oxidation in the melted state by being stirred by a pole of wood which furnishes carbon with a ready affinity for the oxygen present, and acts to reduce the oxids to the metallic state. Underpoled copper is brittle and unreliable.
