There's something compelling about Upper Volta. As a child I had an Upper Volta stamp in my collection, a pictorial featuring a crazed staring skull, some kind of fetish I presume. It had a magnetic terror about it, and so, since then, for me, has Upper Volta.

Despite the chronic shortage of consonants, though this has been alleviated somewhat since the Onion-sponsored letter exchange with Bosnia and Croatia.
