  • noun The trade-name of a substance which occurs in minute crystals, insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol or ether, intended for medicinal use as a solvent of uric acid, and a remedy in the treatment of muscular rheumatism and gout: said to be a condensation product of formaldehyde with acetic and salicylic acids.
