frindley "Come and see" – the equivalent of a fascinator for the ankles. Involved attaching emeralds to the back seam of one's shoes. (I've also heard of it in relation to stockings, in which case the emeralds are sewn to the back seam near the ankle.) Very fashionable in 18th-century France. Apr 17, 2008
