- n. In lithology, the name given by Vogelsang to certain minute greenish-colored scaly, filamentary, or granular bodies frequently seen in microscopic sections of more or less altered rocks, especially such as contain hornblende, augite, and olivin. They are too small to have their exact nature distinctly made out, but probably generally belong to the chlorite or serpentine families.
