  • noun A friction-guard, consisting of a plate of iron or steel, set on the surface or edge of a. softer material to prevent abrasion, as on the edge of the body of a wagon, to prevent the forward wheels from wearing, grinding, or scraping the body in turning. Also wear-plate.
