- n. A plant of the genus Luzula: also called glowworm-grass. The field wood-rush, Luzula campestris, is an extremely common low plant of Europe and North America, having clusters of brown chatty flowers appearing early in spring: in Great Britain it is locally called
blackhead- or cuckoo-grass and chimney-sweeps. A larger species, L. sylvatica, has the names wood-blades and wood-grass.
