- n. A peculiar genus of scarabæid beetles, having the head of the male armed with a long horn, and the female head tuberculate. The genus corresponds in the western hemisphere to the eastern Oryctes. X. satyrus is rather common in the eastern United States. Its larva is said to injure the roots of ash-trees.
