arj commented on the word spurious
The use of "spurious" in the sense "born out of wedlock" strikes me as obsolete.

arj commented on the word scrub
It seems that NASA is using the word "scrub" meaning "postpone" in serious contexts, too. Usually referring to launches that have to be canceled because of weather conditions. They also use "scrub" in what appears to be middle voice: "Poor Weather Scrubs Tuesday Launch Try".

arj commented on the word bokeh
The areas in a photograph that are out of focus. Reportedly a borrowing from a Japanese word "??" 'blur'. I can only guess that the spelling with h is to avoid the /bo?k/ pronuncation."I'll go against the grain, at the risk of getting flamed, and say that the bokeh is nice from this lens, but far from 'the best ever'." -- Canonosaurus Rex on Flickr
