  • OK so I am very new to this... not sure what it does. I found it whilst looking up information of one of the Stalwarts of Kommetjie... Ray Stadtlander. A wonderful, humble man who lived his life to the fullest and died tragically whilst saving his fishing crew. Sadly, I cant find any information about him. The Stadtlander families were one of the early families living in Kommetjie

BUT I see this only as a 'word game'?

  • Hi Bernic,

Wordnik is a large dictionary which has examples of use, and some clips from twitter feeds to that word experts can add new words to the dictionary and understand how those words are used.

I think in your search, you came across the definition of Kommetjie , and on it's page, there's a clip which reads "“Ray Stadtlander, 73, a member of the Kommetjie boat club, drowned when the hull of his 4,5m boat filled with water and capsized as he lowered a crayfish net into choppy seas which were fanned by a strong south-easter.” ANC Daily News Briefing

“An elderly Kommetjie, Cape Town skipper drowned while his fishing crew, unable to swim, watched helplessly when their small ski boat capsized in rough swells while they were crayfishing off” ANC Daily News Briefing

“Momberg, now an African National Congress MP, told an ANC meeting at Kommetjie, Cape Town, that listening to revelations of apartheid-era atrocities still made him feel "terribly guilty".” ANC Daily News Briefing

The blue text in that page's example seems to have a broken link, but looking up AND Daily news Briefing archive on a search engine gives

    http://www.e-tools.co.za/newsbrief/1996/news0226

From that story, there are names of persons on the boat, as well as the boat club name, so looking up the boat club and asking about for survivors will help you on your quest.

    - Alex Z.

"Crew members Dawie Overmeyer, 36, and Cecilia Allen, 29, both

of Ocean View, were spotted by the John Rolfe helicopter just after

2pm, drifting on the upturned hull of the boat nearly three miles

west of Duiker Point near Oudeskip."

I think searching linkedin.com and facebook may help.

Looking for Cecilia A gives a link to this person.. https://www.facebook.com/cecilia.daniels

I don't know if this helps.

    Take care.

ps. looking up 'cape town' and the person's last name gives a set of books. It may be worth getting a book from a local library, or from Amazon.com

    https://www.google.ca/search?q=cape+town+Stadtlander&btnG=Search+Books&tbm=bks&tbo=1

pps you can also use Fish Hoek Valley as a search as it's the region name.

    also, check youtube.
