"Bombolino" is the term used in most of Ethiopia for what North Americans would identify as a donut. It is sometimes thought to have originated from Italian (as do many cooking and mechanical terms in modern colloquial Amharic), but in my few visits to Italy, no one I spoke with recognized this word.

Probably an attempt to make a diminuitive from standard Italian bombolone, doughnut.
