I saw this in the dictionary and got all excited. What could it mean? How the hell do you pronounce it?
Well, sometimes dictionaries are no help at all. "Meaning obscure." As if that weren't freakish enough... the citation was from 1562:
"His cote...was of cloth with a burgunian garde of bare velute, well bawdefied on the halfe placard, and squaleoted in the fore quarters."
I can hear the 1560s pubescent girls now:
Oh. My. God. What on EARTH was he thinking?! A burgunian garde of bare velute, well bawdefied on the halfe placard? I wouldn't leave the HOUSE! And on TOP of that, it's squaleoted in the fore quarters? Talk about the worst dressed campnioffednitzes you ever saw! HA HA HA HA!
