  • I'd say it's relatively common for words to go out of fashion, especially words that are primarily in use in spoken language rather than written. Why is a difficult question and generally not one that linguists address.

  • I am 72, and when I was a teenager, I remember saying "That really torks me off" if I was upset about something. If it was a word in the 60'S why isn't it a word anymore???
