In 1955, Robert B. Young, of the Marketing Research at the Ford Co., wrote to the poet Marianne Moore, soliciting names for a new model of car the company was developing. Here are some of her suggestions.

Judging from the correspondence published in A Marianne Moore Reader, she was quite enthusiastic about the task, and disappointed, of course, when her suggestions were dismissed.

Fascinating list. At first I thought utopian turtletop was another of r's bird names!
Poets should be allowed to name everything.

Hmph. You know, it's a sad time when poets who name cars aren't taken seriously. Car manufacturers ought to try that more often.
