singluar geneder neutral word for neice or nephew. I use it most often in plural when refering to my sister's two kids (a boy and a girl.) The lexicographer Erin McKean introduced me to this word a few years ago and I'm a big fan.

It grates on me. Like the word moist. Burkini is one of the runner-up words in our word of the year campaign.
