Derived as a pseudo acronym of knowledge, "Knol" attempts to create a unique word. But it's only a partial success. Knol is the stock market symbol for a corporation (Knology), and a not-so-uncommon surname. A Google search alert for "knol" produces steady off-topic hits.
So, what is a Knol? Elevator speech #1: Written knowledge created by someone claiming expertise.
