1080 was also the local nickname of a traffic cop - around Alexandra, where I lived a few years as a lad - who was in the habit of tailgating P-plate (i.e. newly-licensed) drivers. The inexperienced drivers would tend to speed up, go over the the limit and then the cop would book them for speeding.
1080 - 'death for bunnies'. His dim-witted partner was known as myxo: just as deadly, only slower.
