  • Isabella I Known as "Isabella the Catholic.” 1451-1504. Queen of Castile (1474-1504). Her marriage in 1469 to Ferdinand V of Castile and León (later Ferdinand II of Aragon) marked the beginning of a unified Spanish state. Isabella sponsored the voyages of Christopher Columbus.
