Its name comes from the River Aire in Yorkshire (and presumably from the dales along its banks)... Unlike smaller terriers, it is not suited to searching out the lairs of small animals, but it is good at hunting otter in the marsh (just one marsh?) and at stag and wild-boar hunting."
