  • noun A rodent quadruped of the family Geomyidœ and genus Thomomys (which see): so called from its fondness for the bulbs of the camass. T. talpoides, one of the Pouched rats or pocket-gophers, inhabits the northwestern United States and the adjoining portions of British America.
