  1. Also engastromith, engastrimuth; from Greek ἐγγαστρίμυθος, a ventriloquist, generally used of women who delivered oracles by ventriloquy, from ἐν γαστρί, in the belly (ἐν, in; γαστρί, dative of γαστήρ, akin to L. venter, belly), + μῦθος, speech. See myth.
