milosrdenstvi From Greek 'gune', woman, and 'aner' ('andros' related form), man. Aug 18, 2008
reesetee I'm not sure it is--maybe TDHC means it to be witty instead?
Originally I think it implied that one was a hermaphrodite and/or came to mean that a person was of indeterminate or ambiguous sex (rather than androgynous, which usually means that one has characteristics of both sexes). Anyway, it's also a botany term--which I'd imagine isn't insulting to the plants that are so described. :-) Aug 18, 2008
