• noun An old name applied by Dioscorides and Pliny to the pellitory, Parietaria, to a sort of thistle”, Atractylis gummifera, and to the bindweed, Convolvulus arvensis.
• noun 2 (helk-sī′ nē). A genus established by Requien for a plant confined to Corsica and Sardinia, which differs botanically from Parietaria only by its one-flowered involucre. It is regarded by many botanists as a species of Parietaria (P. Soleiroldii).
