  • noun A ptomaïne, tetramethylene diamine, C4H12N2. It has been found; in the urine in cases of cystinuria, where it is apparently formed in the tissues, and not as the result of bacterial activity. It is derived from ornithin, and thus from arginin. Originally found in putrefying cadavers.
