  • I think my apartment building HAS domovoye. They live in the bowels of the airshaft and blow cold, cigarette-smelling air at us through the silverware drawer. They also play "music" on bedsprings when the wind blows. Sometimes after we make them offerings of old boots and milk, they stop blowing cigarette smoke at us and blow incense instead.

  • I'm not sure whether I love crepuscular or hate it. I love that there's a word for this concept, but the actual word itself seems more descriptive of an infected, peeling scab.

  • OK, so I more like the concept of a homunculus than the actual word, but it's fairly descriptive.

  • OK, I just love the "vi" sound. It gets me every time.

  • Far from seeming a good match to "a divine inspiration," this word reminds me of flatulence. Actually, maybe that's fitting. I'm not sure.

  • Such a nice knitty word. Just saying it is like splicing together a tricky seam.

  • It really is a shame that "gingivitis" means a painful inflammation of the gums. It is such a nice word. It should refer to some kind of fizzy, gingery concoction that peps you up during the cold winter months.

  • I just love the sound of this word, especially in the first conjugation: j'aperçois.
