  • In the usage as quoted in the Wall Street Journal example above, "klezmer bulger," the word is misspelled. Please see comments under "Bulgar."

  • Missing from both the definition and the examples is an understanding of the word "bulgar"which is well known to klezmer musicians and aficionados of the genre. The Bulgar is an instrumental dance form in 2/4 time (less frequently written in 4/4) which is common in the klezmer repertoire. It is usually played quite fast and is distinguished from other dance forms by its characteristic rhythmic accompaniment pattern.
