  • One of the most popular torture devices across Europe. Other than having limbs put in wooden frames, like in stocks or pillory, a criminal was tied to a column. However, only punishments by humiliation were carried out using a pranger. 'Whipping Post' is a correct phrase for naming a similar device, but used to perform flagellation.
