fbharjo the sawtooth mountains near datil, new mexico is the most descriptive name for mountains I know Nov 1, 2008
kisholi I can't get over the brilliance of pollywog butte and pisgah:D Who names these things? Apr 3, 2007
trivet Oooh, I'd fogotten all about New Mexico. My favorites are the Organ mountains cause they look soooo cool. I didn't know about the Manzanos, but I'm a sucker for all permutations of manzana... Apr 3, 2007
uselessness Here in New Mexico are the Sandias, which means watermelons in Spanish. Named for the reddish hue they take on in the sunset, and the darker trees sort of resemble black seeds from a distance. South of them are the smaller Manzanos, which means apple trees, referring to the orchards in the region. Apr 3, 2007
trivet Thanks, kisholi! I didn't realize Sri lanka had so many mountains, but I'm very glad to have made the acquaintance of the knuckles. Apr 3, 2007
kisholi If you're interested in adding a few from my part of the world there's adam's peak, piduruthalagala, namunukula, bible rock, knuckles... :) Apr 3, 2007
