I'm always entertained by the terms @immerito tweets using the hashtag #termsfromtoday. As best I can tell, the tag emerged in mid 2011 after a brief flirtation with an alternate hashtag form. You'll have to ask him what it all means.

I found the word "afghanistanism" used in a quote published in "The Selma of the North", p. 75: "As Barbee explained, 'The main thing is … we want our citizens to focus on local problems and local solutions rather than engaging in Afghanistanism–like problems and solutions in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana." (I think the cite leads back to the Milwaukee Journal and Milwaukee Sentinel front page stories on 29 Aug 1965)Another page on the web dates the word to 1974: http://www.umich.edu/~newsbias/geography.html but it seems that they are late by quite a while.
